Trick or Treat?

October 22, 2007

We have been INCREDIBLY busy with groups!  Church retreats and school groups have kept us working non-stop since the first of October.  This week we have a school group from Kerrville for the day on Wednesday and a college group arrives Friday for the weekend.  This past  Saturday we went to Ellie Portwood's wedding in Hunt.  It was a beautiful evening and Ellie was a gorgeous bride.

We are happy to report that our telescope, Luther, is being refurbished and should be back on the hill and fully operational by April or May.  What a great opportunity for our campers and school groups.  Don't think there is another camp in the area with an observatory.  Let us hear from you.  Look below the pictures for updates from our campers.

PUMPKINS AT THE WORKSHOP?

A recent retreat group had a fun time carving pumpkins and we couldn't resist taking this photo!

Who are these goblins at Camp Honey Creek?

Harry Portwood and his magic laser

Harry Portwood, resident astronomer, thrilled the 5th graders from Crestwood Elementary with a talk on constellations last week ~ just wait until we get the telescope!

A beautiful bride for sure!

Laura Richard misses Camp so much.  One day she was really camp-sick and made fish sticks and macaroni & cheese for dinner.  She even had brownies for dessert (though she says they weren't as good as the camp brownies).  One of her roommates was a counselor at another camp so she understands ~ we miss you too, Laura.

Jill Hickman helped Ellie get everything ready for her wedding ~ decorating, setting up the tables, and even fixing her dress after the ceremony.  Camp friends are the best!

Meredith Morgan reports that school is off to a slow start for her.  She recently attended a UT game with her cousin Molly McBee and Kathryn Ripley.  They had a blast and enjoyed spending so much time together.  Meredith is busy with college applications and making some big decisions for next year.

Stace Bycroft writes from Australia that she has a new job on a cruise ship, Coral Princess.  She goes out to sea for three weeks at a time.  She is missing Texas, Camp Honey Creek, Blue Bell and brownies (those brownies were good this summer, weren't they?)!

Kathleen Cunnane called for a reference for her college applications.  It just doesn't seem like it's time for that, Kathleen.

Blair Johnson is busy at school this year and is working on an 8th grade musical.

Desie Baker is working hard in calculus, economics and volleyball.  Her volleyball team is doing great.

Cookie Harris says that school is hectic, but going by really fast.  She made an A average her first six weeks and is happy about that.  Tennis is also keeping her busy.  Cookie and the rest of her cabin will have a reunion in December in San Antonio.

Gretchen Stacy helped her volleyball team win by serving 13 straight points during a game recently.  Guess it's all that tennis that helped, right Gretchen?

Sarah Schmitt loves her 5th grade teachers.  She stays busy with cheerleading and student council.  Sarah and her family are hooked on the Wii game.

Jessie Nelson will be a little late to camp this summer and will arrive with the Wegeners and Hannah Crowe.  No problem, girls.

Stacey & Lacey Parker have been staying busy with school and working out at the gym.  They are really enjoying their students this year.
