March 12, 2008

Can't believe it's been almost a month since our last update.  We have been dealing with some health issues here, nothing serious, just time consuming.  Nicia had lap band surgery and is still recuperating from that.  She has lost close to 50 pounds, so there will be less of her when you see her, but she still "Loves your face."  Schmitty had thumb surgery on her right hand to repair some arthritis damage and is in a big honkin' cast.  She had it done now so she would be 100% by the time Camp opens.   Lisa and MoMo were great nurses.  They are still standing and hopefully there will be no surgery in their future.

Things are great at Camp and the weather is finally feeling like summer is right around the corner.    We are busy hiring counselors and getting ready for our groups this spring.  The observatory site is being prepared and that is very exciting.   We are preparing that area for our May 17th First Light Ceremony and we hope you mark your calendar for that great event.  Our Mother/Daughter weekends are filling up fast.  As of today, we must close the April 25-27th weekend and it is almost time to close the May 2nd one.  Check here for updates and register now before it's too late.  If we get cancellations we will re-open the April weekend, so check often.  We would love to hear from you.  Have a happy and safe Spring Break!

(April 25-27 CLOSED, May 2-4, or May 9-11)

Kathleen Cunnane, Cookie Harris, Lorena Ortega, and Camilla Morrison are planning to volunteer at our April Mother/Daughter weekend and we are very happy about that.

Catye Cantrall, Hely Forrester, Patricia Greenlee-Shepherd, Alex Rodgers, Meredith Morgan, Natalie Bixler, Kathryn Ripley and Katy Sorkow had a 2nd term Cabin 12 reunion at Patricia's house in Houston.  They went to watch Katy in her dance competition and had a wonderful time.  Camp friends are THE BEST!

Kathryn Schmitt won a 1st place medal in her UIL Choir ensemble and another 1st in a PTA contest about making a difference in the environment.  Way to go, Kathryn!

Elisa Schmitt came for a quick visit with her grandparents a few weeks ago.  It was great seeing her and she spent some time playing with Jimena Neave and that was fun.

Stephanie Lopez loved watching her DVD from the summer and hopes her school schedule works out this summer so she can be a counselor again.  We hope so too, Stephanie!

Anavilly Estrada reports that her DVDs finally arrived and all she can say is:  "BEST MOMENTS OF MY LIFE HAPPEN AT CAMP."  She is planning to come to Camp for 2 weeks this summer and we are very happy about that.

JJ Valadez is doing great in school and has 2 Bs and the rest As.  Good job, JJ.

Anamaria Bracamontes also had a blast watching her Camp DVDs.

Kimberly Westlund was leaving for Canada for a tour with her choir a couple of weeks ago.  She misses everyone and hopes to return 2nd term as our Chorus teacher.  We hope so, Kimberly.

Mandy Cummings and her Mom saw some Camp chairs at HEB, screamed and sat in them for a few moments and thought about holding up at tree at Camp.  People stared at them as if they were nuts, but we all understand the feeling of sitting around with great friends in our metal chairs.  Some people just don't get it.
